A native of south Louisiana. Born in Lafayette, LA and went to school in Franklin, LA. The oldest of six children. I had to learn how to survive at an early age in life. Mother was very sickly, and father had to work most of the time to support the family. At the tender age of 9 I started cooking to feed our family. I had no recipes to follow. I just did what I saw mom and grandmother do. As I aged, my culinary skills developed, and people would complement me on how good my food taste. You named it, I cooked it. I cooked cakes, pies and full course meals.
Being raised in the Deep South, one of the things we did was made pecan candy. We actually picked and shelled the pecans ourselves. Our family was actually organic before organic became popular. Daddy grew most of the food we ate. My grandfather raised the chickens and pigs.
In my adulthood, people would say to me “your candy is so good, you should sell it as a business”. The thought had never crossed my mind! Upon much encouragement, Neoami’s Pralines was born.
